Employee falls to his death while inspecting fair ride

A 45-year-old man fell to his death while inspecting a fair ride in Alabama.
The amusement company employee fell 30 feet from the "Ring of Fire" ride at the Kiwanis Club Fair in Alexander City on Wednesday.
"This man said he would check it and climbed up, even though he wasn't the one who usually did that," Tallapoosa County Coroner Mike Knox said, according to The Outlook. "When the man who normally handles the maintenance came — he said for him to get down and he would check. When he started down, he lost his grip and fell to the ground."

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The tragic accident took place as the fair was getting ready to open for the evening, according to the newspaper.
The ride wasn't operating when the man fell, and no one was in line at the time. The fair stayed open, but the "Ring of Fire" remained shut down, according to The Outlook.
The employee, who was from Belarus, had been in the business for at least 20 years before his fall, Knox told the newspaper.
